David Frank Vincent Huber was born on November 28 1955 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. As early as age 5, young David’s ambitions to paint were noted. During a kindergarten finger painting lesson he was told that some people made a living doing that. With both hands smearing his work he remarked, “ that’s what I want to do!” In grade 5, a classroom project produced the highest mark of the year, a series of hand drawn and coloured songbirds. During those elementary years it was common to find his work hanging on school walls and in teachers personal collections. In 1976 and 1977 David studied Arts and Design at Sheridan College of Art, Oakville, Canada and in the following years continued to paint as a hobby and occasional means of support.
At the age of 30 he made the decision to pursue a career as a freelance artist and over the years, has contracted such work as movie and stage backdrops, sculpture, portraits, props and murals for these noted Toronto establishments; Brushworks, Hotsets, Advanced Taxidermy, Drops Are Props, Acme Scenic Painting, Atelier, Sculpture Connection, GMI 2000 and Bramante Studios.
In 1993 David began to share his skills by developing a method for drawing instruction that he taught to children and later to adults through the Continuing Education Programs of both Wellington and Dufferin Counties. The programs had such overwhelming success that from his own studio he later opened a school of Animal Drawing and Painting for youngsters and adults. Today David lives and works from his home studio in Brampton Ontario Canada.
Desiring first and foremost to be a wildlife artist David has also exhibited work with these prestigious galleries and shows: Burdette’s Gallery, Erin House Gallery, Gallery On The Lake, Georgetown Cultural Centre, Canadian National Exhibition, International Woodcarvers Competition & Ontario Woodcarvers Association.
Artist Statement: "From as early as a young boy I had a keen interest in the outdoors. Many of my most fond memories are of times spent enjoying nature. But what was most fascinating for me were encounters with wild animals. Observing a soaring hawk high above or witnessing a roaming black bear off on a distant hill and the moose with its great antlers so majestic. From early years in school I found that most subjects seemed to allude me but art class always produced my best work, which most often was stand out amongst the class. It was in college that Art and Art History gendered a new passion and quest born into my life. Since those early days in college and until now I have been in pursuit of combining the mastery of art to the experience of wild nature. My goal is to create work that is artistically strong, art that embraces basic fundamental elements such as line, form, space and colour yet communicates the essence of life in a symphonic, musical style presenting excitement, emotion, truth and the moment while maintaining a decorative feel and a varied brush."
